TelusSpark- Adults Only Energy Series: Spark on Ice

Adults Only Night: Energy Series
Spark on Ice
December 15, 2016
6:00-10:00 p.m.

You skate on it, you slip on it and it keeps your drinks cool. It is embedded in our culture, tells the story of our past and is a symbolic reality of present and future climate change. Join us as we celebrate the ice in our lives and our communities with the Arctic Institute of North America from the University of Calgary.

6:00-9:30 | Exploring Arctic Dwellings | Atrium

Experience life inside an Inuit Sod House and Thule Whalebone House with their ancient artifacts through this virtual reality experience.

6:00-9:30 | Build an Igloo | Atrium

Ever wanted to build your own igloo in the safety of the great indoors? Here’s your chance to find out about the engineering behind these snow structures and re-create your own warmer version of these cozy digs.

6:00-9:30 | Mad Spearing Skills | Atrium

Re-create a spear-throwing game practiced by the Inuit youth of Arviat in Nunavut. Use replica spears to try your skills and learn firsthand if you’ve got the skills to hit targets while sitting in a kayak.

6:00-9:30 | Arctic Artifacts | Atrium

Inuit snow goggles, a stone ulu, a musk-ox skull and a polar bear pelt are just some of the amazing things lurking in the artifact storage rooms of the Arctic Institute offices. Come handle these incredible objects that tell the story of living in the ice and snow in Canada.
