Summer Research Assistant Opportunity
Northern Seas Project
The research assistant will work as part of the SSHRC Northern Seas project, assisting in the transcription of meteorological observations from 19th Century British Arctic whaling logbooks into a digital database. These observations are used to reconstruct past climatic conditions of the Arctic for the historical period. High attention to detail required; an interest in Arctic science/history and experience in reading cursive is a benefit.
The position will be based at the Arctic Institute of North America office on the University of Calgary campus. This position is funded through the Canada Student Jobs program. As such, the candidate must be 30 years or younger, currently enrolled in a post-secondary program, and planning to return to this program in the fall 2018.
The position is for 12 weeks, at 7 hours per day, 5 days a week.
