Mount Logan (5959 m) is located in the St. Elias Mountains in S.W. Yukon and is accessible by aircraft from the Arctic Institute’s Kluane Lake Research Station on the Alaska Highway. An ongoing joint collaboration between Dr. Gerald Holdsworth and Professor G.W. Kent Moore (University of Toronto) involves the collection of meteorological data from three automatic weather stations installed in 2005 on the flanks of Mount Logan. Snow samples are being collected after major storms. Limited weather data are available from earlier AWS units installed on the mountain but not now operational. Field operations are the responsibility of Dr. Holdsworth (gholdswo [at] ucalgary [dot] ca). Weather and isotope data will be used to verify and calibrate a regional general atmospheric circulation model carrying a water isotope fractionation module. This work is being done under the direction of Prof Moore (gwk [dot] moore [at] utoronto [dot] ca). Results will help interpret isotope data from the deep ice cores obtained from the plateau (5340 m).
