An historical account of the fascinating expedition activities of Walter and Foresta Wood from the late 1920’s to 1951 (the year of the tragic death of Foresta and daughter in a plane crash) is in the planning stages. Background material collection is nearing completion. A scanned set of newspaper clippings from 1935-1951 is available but the entire set is on hold until the book is completed. However, selected years may be made available to researchers. Wood was one of the pioneers of expeditionary research and mountaineering in the Yukon. It could be said that he anticipated the formation of the Arctic Institute by many years. After joining the Institute as director of the New York office in 1947, he created Project Snow Cornice that took place on the Seward and Malaspina Glaciers (Yukon and Alaska) (1948-51).
